Humphrey Needs a Haircut

Richmond's Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities shall provide exceptional recreation and leisure programs to enhance the overall quality of life for the citizens and visitors to the City of Richmond and strive to preserve, protect, maintain and improve all of its natural resources, parkland, community facilities and recreational opportunities for current and future generations. Humphrey Calder Community Center is at the top of the Museum District. Its amenities include a gymnasium, a game room with a computer lab, a multi-purpose room and outside are soccer fields, a youth baseball field, basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, a children's playground, and a picnic shelter. There is also a large community garden with plots for rent through Tricycle Gardens.

Volunteers will:
  • Weed and remove invasive species from playground areas
  • Trim and maintain plant growth around park and community center spaces
  • Help with the upkeep of playground equipment and athletic fields
Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, comfortable clothing, and long pants.  Parking is available behind the center.

This project will be cancelled in the event of rain and the rain plan will be communicated in advance.

If allowed on the project, any youth volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a parent-signed youth waiver to the project.
