Birthdays for Everyone

Everyone likes to feel special on their birthday. Virginia Supportive Housing (VSH) owns and manages twelve properties in the Richmond area that provide permanent, affordable, rental housing for low-income, formerly-homeless individuals. Their mission is to transform lives and communities by providing support services and permanent solutions to homelessness. Volunteers are invited to help VSH clients enjoy their birthdays by making decorations, treats, and cards; preparing the party space; and celebrating!

Volunteers will use art supplies to make homemade decorations and birthday cards. They will prepare and bake birthday treats. Volunteers will welcome tenants and sing "Happy Birthday." They will serve treats, hand out birthday cards to residents, play games, dance, act silly, be festive, and help tenants enjoy the party. Volunteers will also decorate doors of residents who might be ill or unable to attend. We encourage volunteers to sign up for the month of their OWN birthday and share in the celebration.

The activities and art projects are specifically designed to accommodate and be appropriate for volunteer family groups consisting of one or more parents/adult caregivers and children between the ages of 5-15. This project is NOT designed for adults without children volunteers, older unaccompanied teens, or large groups of younger children with only 1 adult. The clients really enjoy the interaction with the families and children.

All volunteers who plan to attend must be registered. This includes youth. If the post indicates an adult must be present, youth and adults must register using the team functionality. To learn more about our team functionality, please view our Volunteer with a Group page.

If allowed on the project, any youth volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a parent-signed youth waiver to the project. The waiver can be found after sign up on the confirmation page or by visiting our Volunteer with Youth page.

Registration for this project will close 12 hours in advance.
