Opportunity Details

Family Literacy Spanish Teacher

The Sacred Heart Center is a non-profit community center serving the Hispanic community. Our mission is to create a hub for Richmond’s Latino community that opens opportunities for economic and social integration, family success, and community leadership.

Spanish Literacy Tutors usually work 1-1 with students on Sundays or during the week. However we also have students that come during the Family Literacy program for Plaza Comunitaria. This is for someone who can read and speak well in Spanish and has the patience to help students learn Spanish that may have never learned to read and write. These students may be native Spanish speakers or speakers of an indigenous language.

The Family Literacy program offers English as a Second Language or Spanish literacy classes to adults and has Pasitos Exitosos, a school-readiness program, for their children at the same time. We also offer transportation for students living in the Jeff Davis/Hull St Corridor.

Time commitment:
9:45am-12:15pm
Tuesdays and Thursdays
September 17, 2015 to May 26, 2016
with breaks following the Richmond Public School calendar. Open House registration is September 15 10am-12pm so teachers and students can mingle. Other commitments are teacher training days twice a year at the beginning of each semester and monthly teacher meetings.
