Opportunity Details

Halloween Decorating Party

The mission of Virginia Supportive Housing is to end homelessness by providing permanent affordable rental housing and support services to those most at risk of dying on the streets. The population served at this location is primarily older, low-income, medically vulnerable, and for the most part the tenants do not have the support of local family or relatives. They commonly suffer from loneliness, isolation, physical or mental health challenges. Volunteers often provide the only source of social interaction and emotional support, especially during the holidays. This project provides an opportunity for volunteers to enjoy some light-hearted fellowship with the tenants.

Families are the target volunteers for this day. At least one adult should accompany each youth ages 5-10. At least one adult should accompany each two youth ages 11-15. Of the twenty available volunteer slots, no more than 10 adults should register.

Volunteers will:
  • Make and put up a variety of Halloween decorations for the community room
  • Paint clay Halloween ornaments and pumpkins
  • Bake cookies (anything you can bring would be great!)
  • Engage in conversation with tenants
Volunteers are welcome to dress in an appropriate costume. Violent/gory or sexually suggestive costumes are NOT welcome. Costumes should NOT include weapons or masks that cover the face. Costumes should also be senstive to the population being served. Download a required parking pass.

All volunteers who plan to attend must be registered. This includes youth. If the post indicates adults must be present, youth and adults must register using the team functionality. To learn more about our team functionality, please view our Volunteer with a Group page.

If allowed on the project, any youth volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a parent-signed youth waiver to the project.
The waiver can be found after sign up on the confirmation page or by visiting our Volunteer with Youth page.

Registration for this project will close 24 hours in advance.
