Project Homeless Connect Toiletry Kits



Organizational Beneficiary: Homeward

Impact: Homeward is the planning and coordinating organization for homeless services in the greater Richmond region. Their mission is to prevent, reduce and end homelessness by facilitating creative solutions through the collaboration, coordination and cooperation of regional resources and services. Each November, Homeward hosts Project Homeless Connect, an event that matches clients with volunteers in a one-of-a-kind partnership to assist chronically homeless adults connect to as many on-site services as possible in one day. To do this more than 40 service providers move their operations to a single location for a day, providing dedicated healthcare, dental and vision screenings, mental health interviews, case management, social security applications, identification services, employment resources (including for veterans), shelter and housing assessments, and much more. Last year, almost 700 homeless individuals received critical services through this event. DIY Volunteers will be helping assemble toiletry kits that will be given out at this event. Each package will also include a warm note of encouragement and health.

Supplies*: 
• Five 1-gallon ziplock bags
• Travel sized soap
• Travel sized lotion
• Travel sized shampoo
• Travel sized toothpaste
• Toothbrush
• Deodorant
• Travel sized hand sanitizer
• Small package of tissues
• Five notecards (made or purchased)

*DIY Volunteers are responsible for purchasing any of the materials needed for DIY volunteer opportunities.

How To:
1. Express Interest in the project below to HandsOn. We'll send you instructions and schedule a time for your delivery.
2. Every person who plans to volunteer (including youth) must express interest. You can create a volunteer team to sign up your group or family members. Read about how to create and manage teams.
3. Plan the time and place to DIY! Invite guests (optional).
4. Once you’ve expressed interest, complete instructions will be sent to you. We ask that you donate a minimum of 5 toiletry kits. Contributions over the minimum amount are welcomed, but we will not be able to document more than 3 service hours for any DIY project.

Confirmed participants will receive 3 hours for submitting materials prior to 5pm,
Friday, November 13, 2015.
