Medical Respite Care Packages


 
Organizational Beneficiary: The Daily Planet
 
ImpactThe Daily Planet’s mission is to provide accessible, comprehensive, and integrated quality health services to those at risk of or experiencing homelessness.  Their Medical Respite program is a 20-bed, facility designed to provide convalescent care upon hospital discharge for up to 30 days for adults who do not have appropriate living arrangements to support recuperation. The patients admitted into this program most often have little to no resources or personal items. DIY Volunteers will be assembling welcome care packages to help provide some much needed supplies to these clients and ease their transition back to wellness and stability. Each care package will also include a warm note of encouragement and health.

Supply List*:
  • Two 1-gallon ziplock bags
  • Travel sized soap
  • Travel sized lotion
  • Travel sized shampoo
  • Small pack of disposable razors
  • Travel sized shaving cream
  • Travel sized toothpaste
  • Travel sized deodorant
  • Toothbrush
  • Travel sized hand sanitizer
  • Small package of tissues
  • New gloves and hat (available at dollar stores)
  • 1 pair of new socks (mens or womens)
  • 1 notecard (made or purchased)
*Volunteers are responsible for purchasing any of the materials needed for DIY opportunities.

How To:
1. Express Interest in the project below to HandsOn. We'll send you instructions and schedule a time for your delivery.
2. Every person who plans to volunteer (including youth) must express interest. You can create a volunteer team to sign up your group or family members. Read about how to create and manage teams.
3. Plan the time and place to DIY! Invite guests (optional).
4. Once you’ve expressed interest, complete instructions will be sent to you. We ask that you donate a minimum of 5 care packages. Contributions over the minimum amount are welcomed, but we will not be able to document more than 3 service hours for any DIY project.

Confirmed participants will receive 3 hours for submitting materials prior to 5pm,
Friday, January 15, 2016.
