Cancer Awareness Ribbons



Beneficiary: Massey Cancer Center

Impact: VCU Massey Cancer Center is among the top 4% of cancer centers in the country and is one of two in the state designated by the National Cancer Institute to lead and shape America’s cancer research efforts. Founded in 1974, Massey is dedicated to discovering, developing, delivering and teaching effective means to prevent, detect, treat and cure cancer through innovative research, patient care and education. Cancer awareness ribbons are a popular tool to show support and spread awareness of the illness. In order to support the patients at the Massey Cancer Center, DIY volunteers will be creating ribbons that can be distributed to cancer patients and their families.

Supplies*: 

  • Mimimum of 75 inches of a colored ribbon of your choice (options in full instructions)
  • Scissors
  • Safety pins

*DIY Volunteers are responsible for purchasing any of the materials needed for DIY volunteer opportunities.

How To:
1. Express Interest in the project below to HandsOn. We'll send you instructions and schedule a time for your delivery.
2. Every person who plans to volunteer (including youth) must express interest. You can create a volunteer team to sign up your group or family members. Read about how to 
create and manage teams.
3. Once you’ve expressed interest, complete instructions will be sent to you. We ask that you create a minimum of 25 awareness ribbons. Contributions over the minimum amount are welcomed, but we will not be able to document more than 3 service hours for any DIY project.

Confirmed participants will receive 3 hours for submitting materials prior to 5pm, Friday, January 15, 2016.
