Opportunity Details
Food and Fellowship
The mission of Virginia Supportive Housing is to end homelessness by providing permanent housing and support services. VSH prioritizes individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness and are medically vulnerable. The purpose of the volunteer program is to engage community volunteers in ways that support VSH clients in their efforts to stabilize and reconnect them to a caring community. Activities like meal sharing allow VSH clients to benefit from other perspectives, remind them of their worth as human beings, renew their sense of hope and optimism, and empower them to exert a creative influence on their own futures.
Each volunteer who registers must bring a ready-to-eat, healthy, potluck dish that can serve 10 people. If a family or team of four signs up, they should bring four dishes. Volunteers will clean and prep the kitchen/serving area, set the dining area, prepare food for service, serve the food & beverages to all participating VSH clients, sit and eat with VSH clients, engage in casual dinner conversation, and clean the kitchen/serving and dining area prior to departure. This is a family/youth friendly activity!
Dish examples:
All volunteers who plan to attend must be registered. This includes youth. If the post indicates adults must be present, youth and adults must register using the team functionality. To learn more about our team functionality, please view our Volunteer with a Group page.
If allowed on the project, any youth volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a parent-signed youth waiver to the project. The waiver can be found after sign up on the confirmation page or by visiting our Volunteer with Youth page.
