Transform a Warehouse into a Showroom VL

CARITAS is the only Furniture Bank in Central VA, recycling donated furniture back to those in need right here in our community. Paying rent is not the only obstacle to securing permanent housing. The cost of furnishings can cripple a family on the brink of homelessness and threaten its ability to remain self-sufficient. Your help will make it possible for a wide range of clients to receive these household items, including women escaping domestic violence, elderly persons on limited incomes, refugee families from all over the world, and the working poor.

Volunteer tasks may include unloading donation trucks of furniture and household items, sorting donations by type, matching and folding linens, sorting dishes, and generally organizing the Furniture Bank, in order to make it easily shoppable for clients exiting homelessness and moving into their first home.

Please dress in layers (the warehouse is not temperature controlled!). Wear closed toe shoes and bring work gloves and water. Parking is available in the fenced-in lot. CARITAS relies on donations to continue the mission of transforming lives and restoring dignity. We encourage you to bring any household items (sheets, towels, kitchen items, dishes, silverware, pots & pans, etc.) with you that you may be willing to donate to our neighbors in need.

All youth must also bring along the CARITAS youth waiver. Download it.

All volunteers who plan to attend must be registered, either as an individual, or via the team functionality. This includes youth. To learn more about our Team Functionality, please view our Volunteer with a Group page.

If allowed on the project, any youth volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a parent-signed youth waiver to the project.
The waiver can be found after sign up on the confirmation page or by visiting our Volunteer with Youth page.

Registration for this project will close 12 hours in advance.
