Art Assistant for Lower Income Seniors
Art Assistant needed for Low Income Seniors in Section 8 apartments to help with recreational acrylic painting experience similar to “paint night” for 10-20 seniors. Session meets once a week for 6 weeks and lasts one hour. The Art Assistant volunteer will help set up and stay until supplies are packed, usually about 2.5 hours total. There is one Art Instructor and 2-3 Artist Assistants to to help with supplies, preparation and cleanup, and to engage with individuals as they paint. Volunteer does not need to be an Artist. MEETS THURSDAY AFTERNOON 12:45p.m. - 3:15p.m. in six week sessions with two week breaks. DATES through September 2017: 6/22, 6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 7/20, 7/27......., 8/17, 8/24, 8/31, 9/7,9/14, 9/21
VOLUNTEER WILL:
- Set up paint onto plates
- Distribute canvases and brushes
- Assist participants throughout the one hour session.
-BE VERY POSITIVE AND ENCOURAGING TO THE PARTICIPANTS!
-Help Clean up
This program is very well received and considered a huge success by participants! The program offers an opportunity for creative expression, and helps seniors avoid social isolation, while creating community, as well has helps seniors gain a the sense of autonomy, and experience overall well-being. No prior art experience is required, although some familiarity with drawing and painting is helpful. The Art Assistant can sign up for one or more 6-week sessions. VOLUNTEER MUST BE CONTACTED DIRECTLY BY CINDY PAULLIN, VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR FOR ART FOR THE JOURNEY, PRIOR TO VOLUNTEERING.
