Acrylic Painting Teacher for Lower Income Seniors
Seeking an Art Instructor to lead recreational acrylic painting experience similar to “paint night” for 10-20 Seniors in low income apartments. (Marywood Apartments off of Gaskins). Session meets once a week for 6 weeks and lasts one hour. The Art Instructor will set up and stay until supplies are packed, usually about 2.5 hours total. The instructor prepares for the session with a pre-chosen painting and leads a step by step painting experience during the hour long session.
In addition to the Art Instructor, 2-3 Artist assistants are present to assist with supplies, preparation and cleanup, and to engage with individuals as they paint. This program is very well received and considered a huge success by participants! The program offers an opportunity for creative expression, and helps seniors avoid social isolation, creates community and social exchange, helps seniors gain a sense of autonomy through creative, and helps participants experience overall well-being.
The Art Instructor can choose one sesson or more up to a full 6-week sessions (6 paintings). Class currently meets at 1:30 on Thursdays and lasts 1 hour. Volunteer art assistants and instructor arrive at 12:45pm and leave at 3:15p.m.
Art for the Journey is a Richmond based nonprofit organization that promotes the well-being and healing of children and adults through creative expression, with a special focus on people who otherwise do not have these opportunities available.
