Opportunity Details

Cornerstone Farm Seasonal Maintenance

Community Food Collaborative’s (CFC) mission is to transform community health, wealth, and vitality by re-imagining our relationships to food and farming. In working towards our mission we focus on 3 key determinants of community health: environmental stewardship, economic development, and food and nutrition access. We teach the principles and practice of these three complex issues through a network of schoolyard farms and educational programs that engage residents of all ages. In addition to being used as an outdoor classroom, the schoolyard farm also serves as a venue for our Grow On! program, an 8-month youth internship experience that uses urban agriculture and social entrepreneurship to cultivate critical life skills for middle school students including financial literacy, cooking and food preservation,  critical thinking, and food and nutrition literacy. All of the food we grow is sold as part of the Grow On! program at our weekly youth run community farm stands and CSA program.

Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks, including: planting seasonal vegetables, maintaining and weeding garden beds and footpaths, pruning and trellising plants, keeping compost piles active and healthy, and harvesting produce and flowers. Most importantly, you can expect to have a lot of fun while working and learning.

Volunteers should dress for comfort and safety.  Wear close-toed shoes, long pants and sleeves as appropriate, and sunscreen.
