Happy Wheels Hospitality Cart
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond provides support services for families with critically ill children who are being treated at Richmond-area hospitals.
Through a partnership our local hospitals (Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital, Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, and Johnston Willis Hospital) the Happy Wheels cart provides age-appropriate activities and items to families at the Hospital. Volunteers will run the Happy Wheels hospitality cart and hand out age-appropriate activities and snacks to families in the pediatric units of each hospital.
Days and times available:
- At St. Mary’s, volunteers are expected to commit to at least 2 shifts per month. Shifts are typically 1.5 hours and available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 6:00 pm and Fridays at 10:30 am.
- At VCU and Johnston Willis, volunteers are expected to commit to the same 1-1.5 hour shift weekly. Shifts at VCU are daily at 6 pm, and shifts at Johnston Willis are Tuesday/Thursday at 6 pm.
If volunteers are interested in contributing to the Happy Wheels program but are under 18 years old or cannot commit long-term, they can purchase items to assemble Activity Packs and donate them to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Activity Packs consist of small toys (i.e. coloring books, crayons, play-doh, etc.) consolidated into clear gallon Ziploc bags. Detailed information can be shared with you once you’ve expressed interest.
