Stony Run Creek Stream Cleanup
Our mission: Transforming community health, wealth, and vitality by re-imagining our relationships to food and farming.
Volunteers will work in teams to remove litter and debris that has accumulated around the banks and shallow water of Stony Run Creek. The creek runs adjacent to our farm and flows into the James River, but has suffered from neglect and littering. This is the first of an ongoing effort to clean the stream for a healthier and more beautiful James River and Chesapeake Bay watershed. While much of the cleanup will involve picking up strewn litter with trash grabbers, occasionally larger items will need to be removed by groups and carried to the collection point. Volunteers should wear boots or sturdy close-toed shoes, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts and bring a refillable water bottle. We will provide leather gloves, tools, gloves and trash collection supplies. This project is youth and family friendly but please no large groups of youth without adults.
Join us after for a celebration of Earth Day and National Volunteer Week with a community potluck picnic with games and live music. Free and family friendly, but please RSVP for the picnic.
