Volunteer Archeologist at Historic Evergreen Cemetery

Enrichmond Foundation is a local nonprofit organization working to serve the parks, people, and public spaces of the City of Richmond. Enrichmond is seeking volunteer Junior Archeologists to serve in the Historic Evergreen Cemetery.


Opportunity Summary: The Junior Archeologist is responsible for onsite archeological research including uncovering and documenting historical landscapes on Saturday mornings. In addition, the role will require remote historical and genealogical research and data analysis for a minimum of 3 hours during the work week. This opportunity will enhance our capacity to create online, searchable archives to facilitate genealogical research and process family inquires regarding those interred at Historic Evergreen Cemetery. This opportunity will also help with the facilitation of community volunteer days at Historic Evergreen Cemetery.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Junior Archeologist: Onsite

  • Assist Enrichmond Staff with setup/breakdown for volunteer days.

  • Serve as an Enrichmond liaison to the volunteers and public.

  • Support Enrichmond staff through making changes to volunteer assignments and addressing concerns when necessary.

  • Uncover and document historical landscapes

  • Identify and document burial sites

  • Assist with cemetery record-keeping

Junior Archeologist: Remote

  • Assist with populating searchable archives to facilitate genealogical research

  • Work collaboratively with Enrichmond staff to process and research Family inquiries

  • Assist with cemetery record-keeping

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Commitment to the mission and work of Enrichmond Foundation and Historic Evergreen Cemetery 

  • Passion for historical data collection and analysis

  • Project management and organization skills, with the ability to track intricate details and prioritize multiple initiatives and timelines

  • Strong technology skills including familiarity with cloud-based documents and experience using/updating a database.

  • Must have access to a computer with access to the internet
