Volunteer Orientation (Read-Aloud Coaching Session)

THANK YOU, ALL VOLUNTEERS, for your commitment to help serve the children of Richmond City Public Schools! Our Spring 2019 One Richmond, One Book event will run from March 1st through March 27th in all RPS elementary schools. This is a required Volunteer Orientation for all NEW Volunteers. REPEAT Volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend a Read-Aloud Coaching Session scheduled during the last 30 minutes of these time frames. For the safety of the children and in compliance with RPS mandates, every new volunteer will complete a background check and volunteer agreement at Volunteer Orientation. 

Please chooose one of the dates below to attend Volunteer Orientation. The Read-Aloud Coaching Sessions, designed to give tips and practice for reading to wiggly little ones, are scheduled during the last 30 minutes of these time frames. Please be sure to choose the date you want at the bottom of this opportunity when you sign up.

Details
We need volunteers interested in serving in the areas below. We will discuss the needs and commitments involved with each role at orientation. 

•	Classroom Reading
•	Leading book-themed activities
•	Designing and updating visual Recognition Wall and areas
•	Social Media posting
•	Lifting, moving, and delivering materials to and from schools
•	Sorting and distributing materials
•	Creating and updating surveys, spreadsheets, and reports
•	Managing internal volunteer digital platform
•	Write, collaborate, and act in skits during school hours


Parking Instructions
The Read to Them office is located in The Book Bindery Building at 2201 W Broad Street, Suite 206, RVA 23220, across from Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken. You can park in the adjacent parking garage or on the streets, surrounding the building. The parking garage has visitor and handicap parking on the first floor, just before the building entrance. After parking, proceed to the street. Turn to the right and use the walkway to the building doors. Once in the building, take the elevator or stairs to the second floor. Take an immediate left down the hall and you will see Read to Them, Suite 206 at the very end of the hall. Look for the big purple Read to Them sign on the wall. Please be on time as the building doors lock at 6pm. REPEAT Volunteers coming just for the Read-Aloud Coaching, please text or email Carter Brown the morning of your session to insure building access.
