One Richmond, One Book - John B. Cary Elementary
The Fall 2019 One Richmond, One Book program will take place from October 7th to October 25th. Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage students throughout Richmond City Elementary Schools by reading to classes and leading activities.
The featured title for this fall is The Lemonade Crime by Jacqueline Davies. Through this story, Richmond students will go through the judicial process of class 4-0's trial to determine if their classmate if innocent or guilty of an accused crime. Through reading and leading activities, Volunteers will guide students through the trial while keeping them engaged with the book and interested in continuing the story.
There are two primary roles to choose from: In-Class Readers and Activity Leaders. Occurrences range from 30 minutes to an hour.
Occurrences that are an hour long may require reading and leading an activity.
In-Class Readers:

Read a chapter to students during the school day

Exemplify community involvement

Provide at least one opportunity of exposure to the book
Activity Leaders

Lead book related activities

Build enthusiasm to continue reading the book

Create a fun and exciting environment that reinforces the culture of literacy
All volunteers must attend an orientation and complete a background check before signing up for an occurrence.
