RPS On-Call Volunteers

In an effort to make sure all families have access to meals, technology, and other vital resources during school closure, RPS is looking for on-call volunteers who can help support a variety of initiatives!

Individuals who have flexible schedules and are willing to provide on-call support are a great match for this opportunity. On-call volunteers will help fill in outstanding volunteer gaps the afternoon/evening before or the morning of volunteer activities. On-call volunteers are not required/expected to accept every request, and we anticipate asking for your assistance 1-2 days per week on an as-needed basis.

We are looking for on-call volunteers for one or more of the following initiatives (it is okay if you are not able to participate in all of them, we will ask you specifically which you are able to support, and when, before reaching out to you):

  • No-Contact Food/Supply Delivery (Requires minimal/no direct contact)
    • Help make regular grocery, meal, and supply deliveries to RPS families experiencing housing transition.
  • School-Based Food Distribution (10 schools)
    • Help package meals (no cooking involved) and other supplies for families.
    • 8am-12:30pm at Armstrong High School and MLK Middle School or 9am-12:30pm at all other schools.
  • Mobile Food Distribution (14 routes)
    • Serve on RPS mobile bus route to distribute meals and other supplies to families.
    • 9am-12:30pm on an RPS bus to 3-4 community stops
  • Student/Family Transportation
    • Help with transportation for families in need of technology, food, or essential supplies.
    • Time typically falls between 9am-12:30pm but may vary.

In an effort to follow social distancing recommendations from the CDC and local health officials, we ask that only those who have signed up show up to volunteer. Additionally, please only sign up to volunteer if you meet the following conditions:

  1. You are at least 18 years of age and hold a valid Driver's License.
  2. If you will be driving, you hold Virginia state-approved car insurance, and you are willing to use your own vehicle at your own cost.
  3. You understand that RPS staff may ask you to leave the volunteer project if you show signs of illness or tasks for the day have been completed.
  4. You do not shake hands or have physical contact with anyone if you are attending a volunteer project.
  5. You are NOT part of a high-risk group for developing critical conditions.
  6. You feel healthy and have not been exposed to anyone who may have contracted COVID-19 - see here for more details from the CDC.
  7. You have not recently traveled abroad or to any highly impacted part of the United States.
The opportunity date and time you are looking for is no longer available.
