Conserve & Create

The Friends of Bellemeade Park’s mission is to promote environmental stewardship and community development through the care of an invaluable public park asset. The Friends of Bellemeade Park are hosting a Conserve and Create workday at Bellemeade Park. The purpose of the Conserve and Create event is to continue to create an Outdoor Learning Campus and Green Space for the families in the south side community. We will be targeting the removal of invasive plants, other gardening activities, riparian/stream side restoration, pruning, mulching and general cleanup near the Bellemeade Community Center (adjacent to Oak Grove/Bellemeade Elementary School).

As COVID-19 safety measures continue to be top priority, it is more important than ever for our children to have a comfortable outdoor learning space where they will have an opportunity to experience nature instead of just reading about it.

Volunteer Tasks Include:

  • Weeding in the Rain Garden

  • Working in the nature play area
  • Cleanup of the creek

  • Working in the youth garden

Important Volunteer Information:

  • Please bring a snack

  • Please bring a mask

  • Please bring work gloves

  • Please bring a refillable water bottle (full)

  • Please bring hip boots if you are going to help with creek cleanup.

  • Please wear clothing that is appropriate for this activity (layers are recommended so you can add/remove layers to maintain comfort)

  • Please spray yourself with insect repellent because there may be ticks out and be sure to check yourself thoroughly when you get home.

  • Please be advised that there is poison ivy in the woods where invasive plants will be removed. Long sleeves are recommended and proper handling of the clothes you wear is important so the oil doesn't touch someone's skin. While we're not trying to get rid of poison ivy (the berries are nutritious for some birds), it's growing among the invasive Japanese honeysuckle & English ivy.

COVID-19 Guidelines:

  • All volunteers must wear a mask while volunteering.

  • Volunteers will wear proper PPE, which is gloves and masks at all times.

  • Cover your cough and sneezes with your elbow or tissue.
