Neighborhood Murals

Arts in the Alley aims to revitalize inner-city and downtown neighborhoods. By cleaning up and painting alleys and streets that are currently in disarray, they make them into safer places for residents, schools, and businesses. Walls become bright, outdoor art galleries. HandsOn Day will kick off shift one of day one of a weekend-long painting project they're doing with us. If you'd like to help EVEN MORE, check out the other dates/times you can volunteer with them that weekend. You don’t have to be an artist to participate – much of the work is priming and paint by numbers. Volunteers see first-hand a portion of the transformative process of community redevelopment through art.

UPDATE: The location and theme has changed. Due to permissions with the city, the location had to be moved. It will now be painting at the Hospital Hospitality House. HHH provides a full range of conveniences designed to reduce day-to-day stresses so that patients may focus on recovery and families can concentrate on helping their loved one. The mural here will be an underwater theme in the pediatrics ward.

Saturday morning's tasks will be primarily scraping, priming, and prep.
Volunteers will be:
  • Cleaning and scraping walls
  • Preparing and priming walls
  • Assisting muralists with preparation
Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that can get paint splattered. This project will still occur if there is rain. Free parking is available in the HHH deck but is limited. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. There will be several other HandsOn Day volunteer projects happening at HHH on this day so please arrive early to allow enough time for parking and maneuvering in the small space. Please see your "My Account" after registering for more detailed parking instructions.

All volunteers who plan to attend must be registered, either as an individual, or via the team functionality. This includes youth. If a project requires an adult to be present, youth MUST register as a part of a team. To learn more about our Team Functionality, please view our Volunteer with a Group page.

If allowed on the project, any youth volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a parent-signed youth waiver to the project.
The waiver can be found after sign up on the confirmation page or by visiting our Volunteer with Youth page.
The opportunity date and time you are looking for is no longer available.
