CXLD Fall Planting in the Greenhouse
Since our founding in 1970, Elk Hill’s mission has been to help children and families transform overwhelming challenges into successful futures. Our suite of specialized education and mental health services includes: four residential housing facilities, specialized education in three schools, Therapeutic Day Treatment, home-based services, and specialized summer camps. As part of our specialized education program we engage students in learning about how things are grown and make it to the dinner table. We need volunteers to help us plant our fall crop and build greenhouse tables, so students can enjoy and engage in year-round growing. Volunteer Tasks: Assembling greenhouse tables and planting seeds to be grown in the greenhouse. Painting garden markers and other signs. Volunteers can park near Admin Building (the big historic building). Wear closed toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Volunteers should bring their own water, and if working outside: sunscreen and bug spray. This project will still occur if there is rain. The rain plan will differ somewhat from the original tasks. This project is a part of our regional day of service, Give a Day RVA. Registration will close 24 hours in advance.
