DROP IN: Planting Possibilities
We are a day program for individuals with intellectual disabilities who thrive by leading more independent and fulfilling lives in the community through enriching cultural, volunteer and social experiences. We are dressing up our program site by planting and pruning. Green thumbs are welcome but happy hearts and willing hands will make it happen. On days of service like these, we're looking to create opportunities for residents to partner with government collaboratively and for residents to have the chance to support services that are in their own neighborhoods and Richmond region. Volunteer tasks: Pruning of shrubs, raking and planting of new flowers and greenery will help create a welcoming space for our participants. Planting, pruning, mulching entrance areas of the building. This project is DROP IN. The project lasts from 9am to 12pm and volunteers can arrive at any time during the 9am-11:00am window and are expected to work for no more than one hour. This project allows those who cannot commit to the entire 3-hour-window a chance to serve (and it wouldn't work if everyone stayed the entire time anyway). Volunteers will receive one hour of service for this project. Volunteers should bring their own water, and if working outside: sunscreen and bug spray.Wear comfortable clothing for getting dirty. Closed toed shoes required. This project will be CANCELLED in advance in the event of rain. Volunteers will be notified by Wed, Sept 20, if the project is cancelled.This project is a part of our regional day of service, Give a Day RVA. Registration will close 24 hours in advance.
