Featured DIY-Comfort and Valentines for Veterans
Pocahontas State Park hosts this Valentine Making and Supply Drive annually for the National Salute to Veterans Week. Several park staff members are veterans and this cause is important to them. The National Salute week is held every year to pay tribute and express appreciation to Veterans, increase awareness of the role of the VA, encourage citizens to visit hospitalized Veterans and become involved as volunteers. All donations will be delivered to Veteran patients at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center. Please lend your hand in comforting our Veterans as they receive treatments at the local VA Hospital. This project is part of MLK Day of Service. How To: 1. Sign up for the project below. Every person who plans to volunteer (including youth) must sign up. You can create a volunteer team to sign up your group or family members. Read about how to create and manage teams. 2. Download the instructions 3. DIY! The instructions will indicate how many you need to make. There is no maximum contribution for this project, but we will not be able to document more than 3 service hours for any DIY project. 4. Bring your completed items to the HandsOn office along with your completed DIY Report Form. Our office is open: Monday-Thursday 8:30 am - 5 pm Friday 8:30 am - 3:30 pm Confirmed participants will receive 3 hours for submitting materials prior to 5pm, Wednesday, January 31, 2018. What if I can no longer participate? Don't forget to remove yourself so that others may get a chance to volunteer and so you don't get marked as a no show. Don't forget your completed DIY Report Form when you drop off your DIY items.
