Spring Spruce-Up

For 25 years, Virginia Supportive Housing has been working to end homelessness by providing permanent housing and support services for chronically homeless and medically vulnerable individuals. With a success rate of 98%, Virginia Supportive Housing provides proven, permanent solutions to homelessness.

Independence House is a permanent supportive housing facility that provides affordable, accessible housing and support services for seven very low-income individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) and traumatic brain injury (TBI).  Volunteers are needed to spruce up the property inside and out. Volunteers will be working outdoors to cut the grass, trim the bushes, clean out the raised garden beds, weed, mulch, and plant. Volunteers will be working indoors to clean and sanitize communal spaces (kitchen, dining room, TV room, corridors, restroom). Volunteers may also do some indoor painting and file-organizing in the attic.

This is a family-friendly opportunity that also coincides with Global Youth Service Day. Volunteers should come dressed for messy work and be prepared to work in a variety of weather conditions. Virginia Supportive Housing will provide all tools and supplies necessary for the project.

This project is a part of Affordable Housing Awareness Week 2013.

This opportunity is a referral and is managed by VSH directly. All volunteers who plan to attend must sign up, either as an individual, or via the team functionality. This includes youth.
