Manchester Invasive Species Removal

Come join Friends James River Park as we tackle an invasive species removal in Manchester along the trails by The T. Potterfield Memorial Bridge. We will be focusing on an a hillside area where the Public Art Installion was installed. We will be working with loppers, hand saws and weed wenches to remove Ailanthus trees (aka Tree of Heaven) and other invasive brush that has taken over the hillside, encrouching on the art installation. This area will be bustling with activivity due to the Folk Festival the following weekend and we want our city to look at its best! 

Volunteers should wear warm comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes. All supplies will be provided for the volunteer project. Please be aware that there is a lot of uneven ground so you will need to take precaution while participating. Please bring your own work gloves. Water, sunscreen and bugspray are highly encouraged!

The Friends of the James River Park is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization created by a dedicated group of citizens in 1999. Our mission is to provide an ongoing source of citizen support for the conservation, enhancement, and enjoyment of the 550-acre James River Park System and its natural and historic environments.

This opportunity is a referral and is managed by James River Park System directly. Please express interest below to indicate to the agency your interest in participating.

All volunteers who plan to attend must express interest. This includes youth. If the post indicates adults must be present, youth and adults must register using the team functionality.
