Become a Youth Trailblazer and make a new trail for a youth. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 82 percent of students whose parents held a bachelor’s degree or higher enrolled in college immediately after finishing high school. The rates were much lower for those whose parents had completed high school but not college (54 percent) and even lower for those whose parents had less than a high school diploma (36 percent).
In the area we work, a large percentage of parents did not even finish high school and too many of the youth go down that same path. So, we need you to help create a new path for a youth.
How can you help? By becoming a Youth Trailblazer. Activities with the youth may include but are not limited to:
- Complete activity form to help us keep records of what you are working on with the student(s).
- Keep track of Student College/Trade School planning due dates such as application due dates. You will be given materials to assist with this.
- Help to locate mentors in the field the student wants to go into
- Coordinate Student/Mentor activities
- Keep an eye out for grants and financial aid available for students and work with the students to apply for those assistances if this is something you are familiar with.
- Help set up SAT Prep classes when needed. We will provide the sources for that.
- Help student(s) set up tutoring if needed
- Set up dates for students to meet with our essay assistance person if needed
