Featured DIY - Cold Weather Kits

DIY Volunteering allows individuals, families and groups of all ages and sizes to participate in community service from the comfort of their own homes. Volunteers purchase supplies and complete the kits in their own space then drop off completed projects at the designated days/times below.

Cold Weather Kits
Organizational Beneficiary:  Homeward

Impact:

These cold weather kits will provide individuals experiencing homelessness with essential safety care during the coldest months of the year.  In January, Homeward will conduct their “Point in Time” count.  A point-in-time count is an unduplicated count on a single night of the people in a community who are experiencing homelessness. Point-in-time counts are important because they establish the dimensions of the problem of homelessness and help policymakers and program administrators track progress toward the goal of ending homelessness. Your compassionate cold weather kits will help keep these individuals warm, healthy, and hopeful during our winter months.

Volunteers are asked to make 5 cold weather kits with an encouraging note.

How To:

1. Sign up for the project by clicking the button below.  We are running this DIY for two months, November & December.  You can sign up for a date each month and receive 3 hours for each month you participate.   Every person who plans to volunteer (including youth) must sign up. You can create a volunteer team to sign up your group or family members. Read about how to create and manage teams.

2.  Review the instructions and supply list here.

3. DIY! We ask that each participant make 5 cold weather kits with 5 encouraging notes. There is no maximum contribution for this project, but we will not be able to document more than 3 service hours for any DIY project.  You can get 3 hours for participating in one of the November dates AND 3 hours for participating in one of the December dates.

4. Bring your completed DIY to the drop-off location at the days/times listed on the posting.  No DIY form or youth waiver is needed.
