The Children’s Museum of Richmond, a not-for-profit organization, exists to create innovative learning experiences for all children, and those who support them, that inspire the next generation of creative problem solvers. By volunteering for this project, we are able to create additional learning experiences for children through activity tables. We normally see between 300-600 people whose lives are enhanced through the project, some of whom come to the museum on scholarship memberships. Since we offer field trips at free or reduced rates, so that all children can participate, we try to use volunteer hours to cut out materials for these programs, which allows us to offer more. Volunteer Tasks: Staffing activity tables (at least 2 related to Hispanic Heritage month, MagnaTiles or other STEM related activities, face paint, etc.). Volunteers may also dress up as characters (potentially Pooh, Piglet, Tiger, Cookie Monster, Seymour the Dinosaur). Volunteers may also prep materials for our field trip programs. Clothing should be clean, casual, and conservative. No yoga pants, tank tops, pajamas, ripped jeans, leggings, or athletic wear. Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes while on the Museum floor to prevent injuries. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum. Long earrings and necklaces can be hazardous. Keep perfume or cologne to a minimum, as a child may have an allergy. Volunteers should bring their own water. Parking available in the lot in front of our building.
This project is a part of our regional day of service, Give a Day RVA. Registration will close 24 hours in advance.
