Opportunity Details
Low Line Work Day
The Low Line Gardens is a vibrant, linear urban green space along the canal, extending from 23rd Street to Great Shiplock Park in downtown Richmond. Designed to strengthen the ecosystem and to mitigate storm water runoff, the Low Line Gardens introduces native trees, shrubs, perennials, bulbs and ornamental grasses creating a garden with four seasons interest. The Low Line Gardens are a project of Capital Trees. Founded in 2010, Capital Trees is a Richmond, VA 501 (c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to create a greener, more beautiful Richmond through the thoughtful planning, planting and maintaining of public landscapes. We advocate for the powerful connection between people and nature. This clean up day helps maintain the beautiful plantings in the garden. The work of Capital Trees would not be possible without the citizens who donate their time to make our city a healthier and more dynamic place to live. Volunteers will be cutting back perennials and doing general clean up in the Low Line Gardens along Dock Street and in Great Shiplock Park on Pear and Dock Streets to prepare for spring growth. Parking is available in the lot. Please bring clippers, gardening gloves and wear seasonal, comfortable gardening clothes.
