Japanese Garden Algae Clean Up
Algae removal is a very important summer task to keep the water flowing and the Maymont's iconic Japanese Garden beautiful for thousands of guests to enjoy. Volunteers will join Maymont’s horticulture team, as well as koi fish and turtles, to skim algae off the surface of the pond. Some volunteers will don waders and corral algae toward the edges of pond, and others will help from the sides. This is one of our most popular and coolest summer volunteer projects. All tools and supplies are provided.
Volunteers meet at 1700 Hampton St. (intersection of Pennsylvania Ave and Hampton St.). Bottled water will be provided but reusable water bottles are encouraged. Volunteers should wear clothes they do not mind getting dirty or a little wet, and closed-toed shoes. Volunteers must be ages 18+.
