Work Wonder Grow
Connect with the wonderful world of plants and grow with us at this bi-weekly, family friendly volunteer opportunity. Established in 2012, McDonough Community Garden serves the Woodland Heights and Swansboro neighborhoods in South Richmond. Volunteers will be doing various garden activities such as watering, planting, weeding, harvesting, building soil, composting, and pruning trees.
This project is in partnership with Beautiful RVA and the Lewis Ginter Urban Gardener program. Working together, we can create a healthier and more vibrant community through urban greening and beautification.
Not only will efforts like this one provide fresh, healthy, locally grown fruits, vegetables and flowers to individuals, but it will also serve as a model for progressive urban sustainability efforts in the City of Richmond. We will engage and grow more gardeners who will expand our local food system. No experience is necessary--we'll teach you as you go.
Bring water and wear clothing appropriate for gardening, which may include long pants, closed toe shoes, a hat, bug spray, and sunscreen. If you have your own gloves or tools, feel free to bring those, but we will also be providing them. Parking is on the street.
Registration closes 12 hours in advance.
