Alice Fitz Park Community Garden Planting
Alice Fitz Park is a small neighborhood park being re-imagined and reinvented by generous donations from the neighborhood and the City of Richmond Parks and Recreation. The Park has a playground with tot lot, basketball courts, a small community garden, and ample room to enjoy a picnic at this lovely community park. This project connects with the Department of Parks and Rec's mission because its focus is to help preserve, protect, maintain and improve all of its natural resources, parkland, community facilities and recreational opportunities for current and future generations. City Administration recognizes that community gardens provide economic benefits, increase social equity, strengthen our community, and promote environmental stewardship. Volunteer Tasks: Assemble six raised garden beds, plant fruit trees, spread mulch, and fill garden with soil. Volunteers should bring their own water, and if working outside: sunscreen and bug spray. Wear clothing for working outside, closed toe shoes and gardening/work gloves. Street parking around/near the park. This project is a part of our regional day of service, Give a Day RVA.
