Grounds Maintenance for Dogs
Barker Field is Richmond’s oldest dog park. Barker Field Dog Park is a fenced, multi-acre dog park situated in Richmond’s Byrd Park behind the Carillon and Dogwood Dell outdoor theater. It’s a wooded site, with water, shelters, and seating. Barker Field opened its gates in October of 1998 as Richmond’s first ‘official’ off-leash dog park. Barker Field has used wood chips as ground cover in the dog park. The chips have shifted dramatically due to time and water run off and accumulated along the fence line in a pile, lowering the height a 6' fence to about 3.5'. Volunteer Tasks: Remove the accumulated wood chips back to the center of the dog park away from the fence line to ensure the area is still safely level and secure. Potentially will lay brick pavers to make an entryway and build an information and storage kiosk. There is plenty of parking available. Volunteers should bring work gloves and wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty and closed toe shoes. Volunteers should bring their own water, sunscreen, and bug spray. This project will be CANCELLED in advance in the event of rain. Volunteers will be notified by Wed, Sept 20, if the project is cancelled.This project is a part of our regional day of service, Give a Day RVA. Registration will close 24 hours in advance.
